          Ron,

As I said last night, I think you did an exceptional job with this lesson plan. That you are also not a Science person is also worth noting.

What I particularly found to be great was the progression from simple to more complex ideas. This is essential for any teaching, and you have done an outstanding job with it.

Identify: The United States public education system needs an overhaul. While reformers and Teacher’s unions continue the battle, that began in the 1960s I have to ask if there is an outside model we can turn to? Is there a model...

                Ron,

Your project ended up being much more research based -- and internationally focused -- than I had expected. I applaud your work in both areas.

I would say that the next steps would include looking more deeply into the research that has already been done to investigate the questions you are interested in.

In this week’s readings, we learned about integrated curriculum and meaningful instruction. Right away Brown and Knowles (2014) discusses how Scott Clark’s student’s stated that a problem of prejudice needed to be solved by...

                        Ron,

You raise some good points in your response to the readings.

This particularly stuck out for me:

That stuck with me throughout all the reading. Mr. Clark gave his students a voice, and they were inspired to teach younger students about it.

I think there is one other component to this scenario. The students had a chance to use their voice, to be sure. But they got to use is to express something that was authentically meaningful to them. I'll be that it we interviewed those students, they would tell us about the injustice they saw and need to act on.

So, I ask you: how do we as teachers provide opportunities for these authentic expressions?
