About me

I graduated from Pace in May 2013 with a BA in Mathematics and Adolescent Education. Soon after graduating I began working full time as the Academic Coordinator at Pace Pleasantville’s Tutoring Center. My main focuses are running the Academic Coaching Program to ensure Pace’s athletes achieve academic success as well as helping the Associate Director manage daily operations within the Center. This is my first semester in my masters program and I am excited to learn more about educational technology.

Thanks Jake! It took a while to get the timing right. Trial and error, trial and error!

While reflecting on the past 14 weeks and looking through all of my blog posts I've realized how much I've accomplished in such a short period of time. Starting from trying to figure out Etoys, to programming Python, and finally coding my mBot....

            Melissa,

Thanks for a very thoughtful reflection. I particularly liked these two quotes:

Sometimes I became frustrated while coding because things were not going my way, but I had to remind myself that this was a new language that took time to learn. I would often step away and come back with a fresh look on the task.

This course has made me realize the importance of computer science in K-12 setting. The skills that students learn from coding are invaluable and they should be given the choice to participate in programming classes. I believe that especially during this technological revolution, students should start learning how technology functions not just using it to communicate on social media. We can all do our part by incorporating technology into the classroom and encouraging our student to learn computer science in school or even on their own.

I very much appreciate all of what you brought to course. Thanks so much.

Hey Rebecca,  Nice job with your dance! I like how you made the robot spin and move faster according to the pace of the song. Good idea creating the variable speed and setting it to 100 but then changing the speed later on to 255.

The past three weeks of coding my mBot, Murphy, have been a lot of fun. I enjoyed creating a string of code and being able to watch what the code made the mBot do. Sometimes I was surprised to see that although I meant my code to so something, my...

Great video, Melissa! I'm particularly impressed by the timing at the beginning. My little guy basically flailed around, but yours looked like an actual dance. Very cool

                        I just loved this.

The trial and error work was totally worth it.

Hi Sara, Great dance! I liked how you added the piece of code to randomize the spinning of the robot. Also, awesome job changing his face and making the hearts flash at the end! I wish I had that piece so I could do something like that as...

This week I am confused and excited at the same time. In Chapter 11 I learned about the line follower ports. I made blocks and added a parameter which is replaced when a command is given. I followed the code provided correctly but my mBot did not...
