Science Standards Presentations Project

For this project, you and your partner will prepare a presentation which orients and prepares the rest of us to teach science at the grade level you have chosen.

You can think of it this way: Imagine that the rest of us have been hired to start teaching science at that grade as of tomorrow. What do we need to know to get right to work.

You should refer to this description of the three dimensions of learning addressed by the standards.

Here are some questions to think about in preparing your presentation:

  • What are the fundamental/key understandings for each of the areas of science (Physical Science, Life Science, and Earth and Space Science)?
  • What are the areas of Science Practices that our students need to know?
  • How are the crosscutting themes organized for this grade?
  • What should they know from the previous grade?
  • What is expected of them in the next grade?

Your job is to summarize and synthesize. Don't just tell us what's there. Share it with us in a way that we really "get" it.

You can present your findings in any way you think would be effective. Slides, diagrams, even a puppet show.

You will have 10-15 minutes to teach us.

Feel free to send along drafts for feedback.
