Weeks 4 and 5 - Applying What We've Learned So Far

In the course so far, we have been immersing ourselves in some of the key thinking and theories that apply to the teaching of computer science to young people as well as trying out some computer programming ourselves.

It's time to put what we have been learning into practice. So, here is the work for Weeks 4 and 5:

1. Reflect/revise your reading responses. You have done a good job doing a first pass at the key ideas we have been reading about so far. It's now time to revisit them with some depth and either revise your responses or post new ones (your choice). Also, as you are digesting, it is also time to see how they connect or argue with one another. Your responses/revisions should be substantial and should reflect a deep understanding of each of the readings and thinkers. For your revisions/new posts use the tag: #cs4teachers2018weeks45. I also encourage and expect you to interact with each other. It is hard to deal with these kinds of ideas in a vacuum.

This work is due by Sunday 2/25.

2. Lesson Plan Sequence. Now that you re-digested these thinkers and readings, it is time for you to put some of these ideas into practice. You  task is to design a sequence of lessons in your primary certification area (childhood, adolescent, etc.). The sequence will comprise 3-5 connected lessons. These lessons should augment your primary content area through the use of computer science. Please use this template in order to design your lessons. Once complete, please post them to Pace Commons using #cs4teachers2018lessonsequence.

This work is due by Sunday 2/25.

3. Getting ready for robots. The next area we will be working on is our robotics unit. If you have not already gotten your robots, please be sure to do so by 2/25. If you have one, you can use it for this project/unit. If you would like to borrow one and have not yet contacted me, please be sure to do so. However I recommend the mBot, as mentioned earlier in the course. I have 3 or 4 in part of a lending library. You  should contact me immediately if you want to borrow one, as I do not have enough for everyone.
