Learning Theories Project

Learning Theories Project

Overview
The goal of this project is to have us learn about most of the key learning theories informing education today.
To do this, you will work in a group and become an expert on one of these theories. Then, you and your colleagues will design an module for teaching the rest of us about the learning theory you have been exploring.

Project Requirements
Here are the requirements for this project

Phase 1: Exploring
In this phase, you can your colleagues will investigate, research, and explore the learning theory you have been charged with chosen.
There are some common tools I want us to use:
Annotated bibliography. As you are investigating your learning theory, please maintain an annotated bibliography. Identify the key sources to which you have referred, cite them properly (using APA formatting), and make some notes about whether and how they were valuable to your work. You will turn in this annotated bibliography at the end of Phase 1 (September 21)
Organize yourselves. You can organize yourselves however you'd like. You might make use of Google Docs, or Office 365, and/or even set up a sub group on Pace Commons (if you want to do this, let me know and I can help you get set up.

Phase 2: Sharing
In this phase, you and your colleagues will create and publish materials that will share what you have learned about your learning theory with the rest of the class. The goal of these materials is to pass on what you have learned to them. In your posts about how you learn, most of you talked about learning best from hands-on/experiential situations and by being engaged. So, give a lot of thought to how you will share what you have learned. You can make videos, podcasts, slideshows, web pages, etc. The more creative and engaging the better. These materials are due to be posted to Pace Commmons for the others to access by the end of Phase 2 (September 28).

Phase 3: Learning.
In this phase, you will identify at least two of the learning theories to learn about. For these, you will make use of the materials prepared by your colleagues and to do something which demonstrates your proficiency in this topic. You might, for example, choose to write a post on Pace Commons that demonstrates your understanding of the topic. You may seek to ask questions and or raise criticisms/shortcomings of that learning theory. Once again, be creative and bold. This work is due to be posted on Pace Commons by the end of Phase 3 (October 8).

Phase 4: Adjust and Reflect
In this phase, you will reflect on the processes of exploring, sharing, and learning. Now that you have become an expert on one of these learning theories/models and have designed materials to teach others about what you have learned. It is time to reflect on the experience and what you and others have learned. This reflection can be written (as a blog post) or a video (vlog) or any other way you can think of. It just needs to be posted to Pace Commons by October 15.

What do you mean when you say 'the learning theory you have been charged with.'

      Phase 1: Exploring
In this phase, you can your colleagues will investigate, research, and explore the learning theory you have been charged with.

this project seems very interesting because we are being allowed to explore these theories on our own and I can't wait to begin. the questions I have are:

        1) may we choose our own groups and theories or will they be assigned and if they will be assigned when will that be given?

2)phase 3 is a little confusing. are we going to be discussing our theory or the theory of another group in this phase?

        Phase 3: Learning.
In this phase, you will identify at least two of the learning theories to learn about. For these, you will make use of the materials prepared by your colleagues and to do something which demonstrates your proficiency in this topic. You might, for example, choose to write a post on Pace Commons that demonstrates your understanding of the topic. You may seek to ask questions and or raise criticisms/shortcomings of that learning theory. Once again, be creative and bold. This work is due to be posted on Pace Commons by the end of Phase 3 (October 5).

UPDATE: Sam & Kylah were the 1st two to respond via message to me, so the three of us will be doing Behaviorism! Thanks!

I would like to do the Operant Conditioning Theory, if anyone would also like to do this theory please message me.

Professor are we allowed to pick from the second theories list link or should we be picking from the seven options below if those are the options i pick Connectivism.

Hello Valerie and all other teaching Fellows,

As educators in the modern era, I find the subject of Connectivism very intriguing, and very relevant to our journey as educators.  Let me know if you'd be interested in pursuing this study!

                      Thanks so much,

I would like to tackle the concept of Constructivism. It seems to still be available so If anyone else would like to join in on the topic just message me.

                          Thanks,

I apologize for the confusion (and my delayed response).

In Phase 2 you will be preparing materials to share what you have learned about your learning theory. During Phase 3, others will use those materials to learn about it.

                                    Does that help?
