Krista, You make some good points here, but your response seems rushed and doesn't include all of the readings.

                        Julie,

I enjoyed reading your response to this week's readings.

I was particularly struck by this:

This highlights the importance of providing students with opportunity to constantly go through writing as a process. There will always be a specific task that students are expected to complete, but there also needs to be consistency in the rubrics that students are given to understand writing as a process.

I am curious about how you are doing this in your classroom.

You also asked the $64 million dollar question:

I feel that literacy instruction should not have one “look”. It should be flexible depending on content, grade level, and also the populations of students. However with the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) seem to keep teachers in a “box” or “framework” as to what they should be.

What ideas do you have, as Taco Bell might say, for teaching "out of the box?"

                                  Krista Hegge

                                  Good evening,

I feel like there should be some framework established. But, I also like to give my students options or choices as to how they want to show their knowledge of the work. I also give them a mixture of choices for their readings, this week we did half a reading and half a video, so same information just different material. Maybe there could be a "menu" of choices or options that teachers can branch off of, giving them flexibility. I think teachers get tired of the same things every day/week just like the students.

                                  Thank you,

                                  Krista
