Lesson Plan

Lesson Plan: 3rd Grade Science

Topic: Potential and Kinetic Energy

Objective: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to differentiate between potential and kinetic energy by providing examples of activities done in both states.

Procedure: Teacher will begin discussing energy, and the idea in which it takes energy to complete everyday tasks such as walking, running, sitting and even sleeping.

Teacher will then explain the meanings of potential energy and kinetic energy.

Teacher will then ask students to give ask students to raise hands and give examples of activities done using potential energy vs those done using kinetic energy.

Teacher will then discuss the transfer between both energies; for example, when one is sitting then they get up and walk around that is the transfer of potential to kinetic energy. Teacher will then handout activity sheet.

Assessment: The activity sheet will have pictures of different activities; sitting, running, walking, sleeping, standing etc, and students will have to label whether the person in the picture is using potential or kinetic energy to do this activity.
