Final Reflection

I believe that my best work from the course was the Week 2 assignment of using the Mbot Sensors. I think I did a great job using code to allow the mBot to sense its surroundings. I learned throughout the semester that technology can enhance student learning. Technology, if used properly can really have an impact on student learning. Technology is a learning tool that so many students love, so it is important to think about an interdisciplinary approach. This is a huge reason as to why I love technology. It covers its own content as well as enhances others.

One of the accomplishments from this semester was gaining a sense on how to use the tools and programs in the classroom. Prior to this course I have had experience with using the tools for myself and not in a classroom setting. This course allowed me to see how technology can be implemented into the classroom. Also, this class has allowed me to accomplish thinking about an interdisciplinary approach to my teaching and think about how I would be able to support colleagues in other content areas with these types of tools for their own classrooms.

Thinking back to high school there were not many opportunities for technology in the classroom other then my technology class one quarter in 7th grade. It is amazing to see how technology has changed so much. Technology in 8th grade was all about hands on building similar to wood shop. However, now I have a completely different take on teaching Computer Science in schools. I think that there should be more courses for Computer Science. I think that the benefit of teaching Computer Science is that it promotes problem-solving and critical thinking skills in a way that engages students. Within my own classroom my students program using Scratch and Ozoblockly. In 7th grade students use SketchUp to incorporate 3D drawing and math. This course has opened my eyes to all of the possibilities using technology in the classroom.

Paul, I find it funny that you chose the week two assignment for mBots to be your best work, yet week two was my worst week throughout the whole mBot project. Also, I think that you raised a great point in saying that technology, if used properly can really have an impact on student learning. I currently student teach in New Rochelle and my mentor teacher is using project based learning on their Chromebooks in order for them to learn about different planets. It is so interesting to see the difference in interest students raise between regular lectures from the teachers and individual projects on their own using technology as a resource.

        Paul,

I am so glad you had a good experience in this course.

        I especially liked this:

        Thanks for a great semester.
