mBot Week 1

This weeks adventures were quite comical to say the least. For starters, I couldn't understand why my mBot was failing. My friend Melissa who took this course in the past came over and with some trial and error, we came to the conclusion that I never turned the mBot on, explaining why it was failing. I had fun adjusting the numbers when the mBot was running in a circle because it was too wide of a circle the first go around causing it to almost fall off the table. However, I had trouble getting the mBot to race because the remote control has no batteries and the keys on my keyboard were not controlling it. How did everybody else do with the racing tutorial? Lastly, I was unable to determine how to get the mBot to sing and dance at the same time. I could only get it to dance first, and then sing. Does anybody have any tips on how to get both functions to run at the same time?

Below is pictures and videos of my mBot adventures for the first week.

Hi Amanda, to be honest- if I did not take the session with Dr. Ardito I would have not been able to transfer my code from the computer to the mBot. Luckily he showed us how to use Arduino and transfer all programs. I had a lot of fun exploring this week too!

        Amanda,

I really enjoyed the whimsy you added to your programming. Nice work.

          Alicia,

I am glad you found the in person session helpful.

            Amanda,

I've gone to watch a few robotics competitions in the past where students spend all year building robots to try and achieve challenges in order to get the most points.. it's AMAZING how many teams forget to turn them on.. In fact, my schools team forgot to turn their robot on TWICE, once the first year and again the second year. That was a tough cookie to swallow!!

Alicia, I took a session with Dr. Ardito but waited until a few days after to start the tutorials, meaning I forgot a few of the things that he had told me. However, without the in person session, I would have been completely lost the past four weeks.

Jeff, that sounds really amazing! I did a program here at Pace where I assisted high school students in building robots to drive around in our pond on campus. Although it was only for a few short weeks, it was so neat to see them working in action and then to see what robots worked and what robots failed. I feel your pain of forgetting to turn the robot on though!
