Introduce Yourselves

Hello everyone! Some of you may know me, while some of you have yet to actually come in contact with my through skill building or our orientation the other night, so I will go ahead and introduce myself. My name is Ellen Tietjen and I currently reside in Suffolk County, on Long Island. Over the course of my academic career, I have come in contact with many different learning methods and I believe the most effective and efficient learning environment that seems to be the most productive was hands on activities. I was always able to retain more information through an activity that required me to fully process what I learned and apply it to a hands on activity. By utilizing a hands on approach it allows me to the opportunity to practice what I was taught in a more applicable way, where as I believe the most inefficient method to teach it to lecture students straight from the reading material or provide them with limited direction on what it is that you expect. Both experiences not only led further confusion, when in regard to a test or an assignment, but I believe it never allowed me the opportunity to fully grasp or retrain the information in a practical way to which could be used in the future.

      Ellen,

It's nice to meet you (albeit virtually).

I appreciated how boldly you introduced yourself here and in your profile.

This particularly stuck out for me:

I believe the most effective and efficient learning environment that seems to be the most productive was hands on activities

I have many of these activities planned for this class.
