What: Flipped Classroom

Proposed to: Bedford Hills Elementary School

For: Science and Social Studies, 5th grade

Since reading about flipped classrooms in scholarly articles and from classmates’ first hand accounts, it seems beneficial to use a flipped classroom model for content areas like social studies and science. In Bedford Hills Elementary, they have instructional blocks of time devoted to both social studies and science. If BHES adopts a flipped classroom model, students would learn content at home, such as vocabulary, safety rules, and readings; which would free up valuable class time for experiments, collaborative projects, and possibly field trips.
